The proposed international airport at Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh is facing land acquisition issues. The Centre had identified about 258 hectare spread over 13 villages for acquisition. The compensation offer ranges from Rs 12 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore depending upon the location. The government has offered to pay the farmers according to the circle rates, but the farmers are demanding much more in view of the importance of the project. The proposed airport is estimated to cost Rs 829 crore and will have a 3,200 m long airstrip. The project has been granted environmental clearance by the Centre as well as the in-principle approval.
