Cochin Airport wins Covid champion award at Wings India 2022

The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has won the Covid champion award at Wings India 2022.

The Wings India 2022 event is jointly organised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) at the Begumpet airport in Hyderabad.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia presented CIAL Managing Director S Suhas IAS with the Covid champions trophy.

According to CIAL, the airport operator was chosen for successfully implementing a meticulous project called Mission Safeguarding during the pandemic period to ensure safe travel at Kochi Airport.

CIAL handled 4.3 million passengers in 2021, making it the third-largest international airport in the country.

Wings India Awards 2022 presented Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) with the Aviation Sustainability and Environment award for its efficient green practices. On March 25, the award was given in recognition of CSMIA's dedication and unwavering efforts to implement sustainable initiatives and move closer to becoming one of the country's most environmentally friendly airports.

Cochin International Airport is the country's first public-private partnership (PPP) built greenfield airport.The airport, which was designed and built from the ground up, has been praised for pioneering a new concept in infrastructure development. CIAL, the company that built and operates the airport, has become an international brand thanks to incredible public participation, unwavering support from NRIs, and effective leadership. It is also the world's first airport to be entirely powered by solar energy.
