Maharashtra PWD signs MoU with WAPCOS for Mahurgad ropeway project

Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD) and a Central government agency, WAPCOS Limited, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a Mahurgad ropeway project in Maharashtra's Nanded district.

The Mahurgad ropeway project will connect the Mahur temple of Goddess Renuka with the Datta Shikhar hill in the Nanded district in Maharashtra.

An official said that the MoU was signed by a representative of WAPCOS Limited, a multinational government undertaking and consultancy firm wholly owned by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, and PWD chief engineer Dilip Ukirde in Aurangabad.

Temples of Goddess Renuka, Lord Dattatreya, and Anusaya are located at Mahurgad hilltops.

To join these pilgrimage centers through a ropeway project Rs 51 crore fund has been approved.

PWD doesn't possess the ropeway technology, whereas the WAPCOS has it. They have designated them as the project management consultant for the Mahurgad ropeway project. The authority anticipates that the study, tendering, and project implementations should be finished in the next two-and-a-half years, Ukirde told the media.

The project will support old pilgrims to reach the hilltop and the temples, another official said.
