NMIA To Begin Operations on 25 December With 23 Daily Flights

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), India’s newest airport, will begin commercial operations on 25 December 2025. The inauguration by the Prime Minister on 8 October marked the start of a carefully phased operational rollout designed to prioritise passenger safety, comfort and reliability from day one. The new airport will significantly enhance aviation capacity for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

During its first month, NMIA will operate for 12 hours daily between 8:00 and 20:00, handling 23 scheduled daily departures. The airport will be capable of managing up to 10 aircraft movements per hour during this phase.

The inaugural arrival at NMIA will be IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru, expected to land at 8:00 AM. Shortly afterwards, IndiGo flight 6E882 will depart for Hyderabad at 8:40 AM, becoming the first outbound service from the new airport. In the initial launch period, passengers will have access to flights operated by IndiGo, Air India Express and Akasa Air, connecting Mumbai with 16 major domestic destinations, including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Goa, Jaipur, Kolkata and Lucknow.

From February 2026, NMIA will transition to 24-hour operations, expanding to 34 daily departures to support rising demand in the MMR.

To ensure a seamless launch, NMIA is conducting comprehensive Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) trials with security agencies, airline partners and other stakeholders. Preparedness measures have been further strengthened by the induction of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on 29 October 2025, enabling full-scale deployment across essential airport functions.
