Trichy MP calls for audit of aircraft airworthiness

Trichy MP Durai Vaiko urged the Union civil aviation ministry to conduct an audit of the airworthiness of all operational passenger aircraft to ensure flyer safety. This appeal follows an emergency landing by a Sharjah-bound Air India Express flight at Trichy airport last week. Vaiko emphasized the need for the ministry to monitor whether airlines are maintaining their fleets regularly.

"I will raise the mid-air scare incident in Parliament, as it has caused panic among passengers and the public. With frequent occurrences of flight cancellations, technical snags, and delays, the Union government must assess whether airline fleets are being upgraded or phased out based on their flying hours," Vaiko stated at the Trichy collectorate.

Previously, Vaiko, along with Perambalur MP Arun Nehru and Karur MP S. Jothimani, presided over a DISHA meeting to review MGNREGA projects in 404 panchayats. Officials reported that 27 projects involving labor and materials are currently in progress. Nehru called for increased awareness of successful self-help group (SHG) women who have taken loans, while Jothimani urged support for SHGs to market their products.

Vaiko also highlighted the importance of MGNREGA as a vital government scheme, stressing that funding is being consistently reduced and calling for adequate resources to ensure employment for rural workers for 100 days.

Additionally, he chaired a district road safety committee meeting later in the day.
