The NHAI has rolled out the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza on the Delhi–Jaipur section of NH-48 in Rajasthan, making travel from Manesar to Jaipur barrier-free. Earlier, the authority had implemented MLFF at Daulatpura and Manoharpura Toll Plazas on the same corridor. The ministry of road transport and highways said the launch marked a significant milestone in transforming the busy section and enhancing ease of travel for national highway users. The MLFF framework introduces barrier-less tolling with minimal human intervention, enabling vehicles to pass without stopping and ensuring seamless traffic flow. By enabling zero waiting time and uninterrupted vehicular movement, the system has reduced delays, improved fuel efficiency and cut vehicle emissions at toll locations. The system integrates Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology with FASTag-based electronic toll collection to enable automated toll collection. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision of delivering citizen-centric services through technology to enhance ease of living and ease of doing business. Users are required to maintain sufficient balance in their FASTag accounts to ensure a seamless MLFF experience and avoid penalties. In cases of insufficient balance or invalid or non-functional FASTags, an electronic notice will be issued for non-payment of the user fee and users must pay the applicable toll within 72 hours of receiving the notice. If payment is not made within 72 hours, the user fee will be charged at twice the normal rate applicable to the vehicle category and e-Notices can be accessed and paid through the designated portal. The implementation of MLFF is expected to strengthen the tolling ecosystem by enhancing transparency, reducing operational costs associated with physical toll plazas and improving the overall efficiency of toll operations across the country. Authorities said the move should help commuters save time and make highway travel more predictable.
