BRO marks 65th Raising Day, preps for Shinkun La Tunnel Build

According to a statement from the defense ministry, the BRO is set to commence construction on the 4.10-km long Shinkun La Tunnel. Upon completion, this tunnel will claim the title of the world's highest tunnel at 15,800 ft, surpassing China's Mila Tunnel at 15,590 ft.

An event took place in New Delhi to mark the occasion, presided over by the defence secretary.

In his speech, he praised the BRO for effectively fulfilling its duties in challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions. Aramane also acknowledged the significant contributions of BRO personnel during the Silkyara tunnel collapse incident and the Sikkim floods.

He mentioned the organisation's forthcoming role in the Vibrant Villages Programme, aimed at the holistic development of select border villages.

Aramane described the BRO as an "extremely crucial" organization, highlighting its role in bolstering national security through infrastructure projects in border regions while fostering socio-economic progress in remote areas.

He applauded the BRO for completing projects within stipulated timelines, expressing confidence that the workforce ('Karmayogis') would continue to expedite border infrastructure development.

Aramane reiterated the importance of incorporating advanced technology and techniques to accelerate project completion, thereby optimizing human efforts. He emphasized that automation and mechanization would be pivotal for the BRO's future operations.

Director General of the BRO, Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan, conveyed greetings to all personnel of the organization.
