BRO: Zoji La Pass Snow Clearance Near Completion

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) announced that the snow clearance operation at the Zoji La Pass in Kargil district is approaching its final stages, marking progress in efforts to restore connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh.

The Zoji La Pass, situated amidst the towering peaks of the Himalayas, serves as a crucial link connecting the Kashmir Valley to Ladakh. Located in the Kargil district of the Indian Union territory of Ladakh, the pass plays a pivotal role in connecting the Kashmir Valley with the Dras and Suru valleys to its northeast, as well as the Indus Valley further east.

In a coordinated effort, the District Administration of Bandipora undertook special air sorties earlier in the day to evacuate 120 stranded passengers from the snow-bound Kanzalwan area in the Gurez sector of North Kashmir's Bandipora district. According to officials, 60 passengers were airlifted from Bandipora to Kanzalwan, while 60 were transported from Kanzalwan to Bandipora.

However, challenges persisted as the Bandipora-Gurez road in Jammu and Kashmir faced blockages due to multiple snow avalanches on Sunday. The BRO swiftly initiated an extensive clearance operation in the affected area to restore traffic flow and ensure the safety of commuters.

As the snow clearance operation progresses at the Zoji La Pass and efforts continue to address disruptions caused by avalanches in the region, authorities remain committed to swiftly restoring connectivity and facilitating travel between Kashmir and Ladakh.

The ongoing efforts underscore the resilience and determination of agencies like the BRO and local administrations in overcoming natural challenges to ensure vital lifelines remain operational for the benefit of residents and travelers alike.
