Centre approves Rs.106.37-billion road and tunnel projects for J&K

296-km network to enhance all-weather connectivity in border areas.

The Union government has approved 19 road and tunnel infrastructure projects worth Rs.106.37 billion for Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to improve regional connectivity and ensure yearround access to remote border districts.

Cleared by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the projects span a total length of 296 km. Key developments include the Peer-Ki-Gali Tunnel (Rs.38.3 billion), which will connect the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India, and the Sadhana Tunnel (Rs.33.3 billion), providing allweather connectivity to Karnah in Kupwara.

Other approved works comprise:

  • Zaznar–Shopian section – Rs.8.52 billion
  • Lal Chowk–Parimpora four-lane flyover –Rs.7 billion
  • Trehgam–Chamkote section – Rs.9.66 billion
  • Magam flyover (Narbal–Gulmarg) – Rs.4.45 billion
  • Qazigund Bypass – Rs.950 million
  • Two-lane bridge over Rambiara, Shopian– Rs.710 billion

The projects are expected to strengthen logistics, improve regional infrastructure, and enhance tourism potential in the Union Territory.
