Centre Prioritising National Highways Expansion In Kerala

The central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is prioritising National Highways (NH) expansion and modernisation in Kerala, the state chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said. He made the remarks during a review of infrastructure and development initiatives across the state. The comments set out the party view on strengthening road connectivity to support economic activity.

The BJP state chief said the focus includes upgrading existing routes, widening key corridors and constructing bypasses to ease urban congestion. The programme is described as adopting modern engineering standards, enhancing safety features and improving signage to ensure smoother movement of goods and people. The statement noted coordination between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and state agencies to fast track project delivery.

Officials identified priority stretches that link industrial hubs, ports and tourism centres to enhance regional integration. The modernisation plans encompass bridge repairs, drainage upgrades and measures to improve resilience against seasonal flooding on vulnerable stretches. Emphasis was placed on quality construction to reduce long term maintenance demands.

The announcement highlighted that construction activity is intended to create local employment and spur ancillary services in towns along upgraded routes. It said land acquisition and environmental clearances will follow statutory procedures and include stakeholder consultations. The BJP leader highlighted ongoing monitoring arrangements to track progress and resolve implementation impediments.

State and central authorities continued regular discussions to align funding and technical support for the highway works. The initiative was presented as part of a broader push to modernise infrastructure in Kerala and improve access for commerce and tourism. Follow up meetings were planned to map project timelines and milestones for delivery.
