Gadkari sanctions projects worth Rs 1.6 trillion in northeast

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced a new project for Nagaland at a total sanctioned cost of Rs 32.35 billion: the development of Akhegwo-Avangkhu road stretch in three packages.

Gadkari was in the northeast last week, where he announced the sanctioning of projects worth Rs. 1.6 trillion, including the Nagaland project.

He said that the road will provide international connectivity to Myanmar and boost connectivity to the tourist destination of Shilloi Lake.

Gadkari announced the projects while concluding a review of National Highway projects in the northeast region in Guwahati.

Earlier in the week, the minister approved a slew of new road projects valued at Rs 680 billion in four north-eastern states for international standard surface connectivity. He told the media that new projects worth Rs 500 billion for Assam, Rs 90 billion for Meghalaya, Rs 50 billion for Nagaland and Rs 40 billion crore for Sikkim have been approved.
