When planning the industrial smart city of Dholera, bureaucrats noticed the nearest railway station was 22 km away, at Bhimnath. They approached the Railways, who were reluctant at first, citing poor economic viability, but now a railway line is in the works, along with other connectivity projects. The maps used for Dholera Smart City have become the starting point of what is known as Gati Shakti today – the master plan being touted as the Google Maps of infrastructure planning. It offers a dashboard with a bird’s eye view of bridges, roads, tunnels, pipelines, power transmission cables, forests, water bodies, and airports in India.
