Kasaragod-Thiruvananthapuram Highway Set to Boost Kerala’s Tourism

Kerala’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas has confirmed that the six-lane National Highway connecting Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram will be completed by 2025.

At the inauguration of a 37.9 km stretch from Nedumangad Pazhakutti to Ponmudi hill station, Riyas assured that key infrastructure projects like the Coastal Highway and Hill Highway would also be completed on schedule. These efforts are aimed at improving connectivity, particularly for Kerala’s burgeoning tourism sector.

The newly inaugurated road to Ponmudi, one of Kerala’s prominent hill stations, is expected to bolster tourism in the region. Riyas highlighted the importance of accountability in project execution, announcing incentives for contractors who meet deadlines and penalties for delays.

The Rs 167.69 crore project, part of the Rebuild Kerala Initiative, aims to reconstruct roads damaged by the 2018 floods, with features like widened culverts, new retaining walls, and drainage systems to ensure the road meets modern standards.
