Temporary Toll Plaza Removed From NH-66 At Arikady

Government of India has removed the temporary toll plaza near Arikady on National Highway-66 (NH-66) in Kasaragod District, Kerala, with immediate effect. The temporary facility had been established as part of operational arrangements related to the development and maintenance of NH-66. The decision aims to improve commuter convenience and public welfare while pursuing infrastructure development.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (the Ministry) initiated a comprehensive review after receiving representations from the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala and under the guidance of the Minister of Road Transport and Highways. The review examined multiple aspects of the toll plaza issue and assessed the hardships experienced by local residents. The Ministry concluded that immediate corrective action was warranted and ordered the cessation of operations and fee collection at the site.

The announcement framed the removal as consistent with the Government's broader objective of balancing rapid infrastructure growth with ease of living for citizens. The Ministry indicated that the action reflects responsiveness to public concerns and operational flexibility in project delivery.

The Ministry noted that under the current national leadership India has pursued an ambitious programme of road network expansion and connectivity enhancement, with transformative projects across regions. The removal of the temporary toll plaza at Arikady was presented as an example of listening to citizens and adjusting administrative measures to reduce hardship.
