Manipur Chief Minister Unveils Andro Market And Bridges

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh inaugurated a new Ima Market and two bridges in the Andro Assembly Constituency on July 27. The crossing works span the Thoubal River at Khungdongbam Mapa, labelled MN04115, and Wangkhem Siphai Leikai, labelled MN04116. Andro MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar accompanied the chief minister at the opening ceremony, which drew local officials and residents who attended to observe the new infrastructure.

Singh pledged Rs 100 million (mn) for repair and construction of inter?village roads and confirmed plans to establish a new Municipal Council office for the area. The allocation is intended to accelerate linked works that aim to improve connectivity and public service delivery across the constituency. The visit constituted his second trip to the region since assuming office and was presented as part of a broader push to pair heritage conservation with development.

Officials acknowledged that development had been hindered by ongoing ethnic strife and that the state had suffered for nearly three years. The chief minister appealed to communities in the hills and the valley to reconcile and cooperate, expressing the intention to revive the spirit of unity that existed before May three, 2023. Local representatives at the event were urged to engage constructively with administrative plans to ensure projects proceed without further disruption.

Local groups and youth clubs formed crowds at the venue and submitted lists of demands that emphasised durable roads, sturdy retaining walls, and additional primary school teachers. Authorities indicated that priorities will be balanced between preserving the constituency's cultural landmarks and implementing necessary civil works. Officials said coordination with community groups will be maintained to address immediate needs while pursuing longer term infrastructure objectives across Andro.
