MMRDA Removes 1.14 lakh m of Metro Barricades

In a bid to ease congestion and improve urban mobility during monsoon, MMRDA has undertaken one of the largest coordinated barricade removal and monsoon preparedness drives across its ongoing metro and infrastructure projects.

With substantial progress achieved in viaduct and structural works across multiple metro corridors, barricades from completed stretches beneath metro viaducts are being systematically removed, restoring maximum possible road space before the monsoon. Wider carriageways across key arterial roads are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, support better rainwater drainage and ensure smoother movement across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Barricade removal across metro corridors includes 18,277 m on Metro Line 2B (88.64 per cent), 31,706 m on Metro Line 4 and 4A (92 per cent), 11,134 m on Metro Line 5 (98.88 per cent), 28,952 m on Metro Line 6 (96 per cent), 17,275 m on Metro Line 9 (94 per cent) and 7,174 m on Metro Line 12, while phased reduction is ongoing on Metro Line 7A. In total, 1.14 lakh m of barricades have been removed so far.

Besides restoring road space, MMRDA has issued directives for dedicated emergency response teams at site level as part of monsoon preparedness plans. The measures include deployment of dewatering pumps, emergency machinery, safety personnel and round-the-clock preparedness systems to ensure commuter safety and uninterrupted mobility during the season.
