Rajkot–Jetpur Highway Work Fast-Tracked for 2026 Completion

The Gujarat government has instructed relevant departments to accelerate construction on the long-pending six-lane highway between Rajkot and Jetpur, aiming to make the corridor fully operational by September 2026.
According to a DeshGujarat report, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed various agencies to collaborate and ensure the highway—crucial for regional commerce and connectivity—is completed on schedule. The corridor currently handles around 25,000 vehicles daily, underlining its importance to the state’s transport network.
Key structural work on the network of 30 bridges that support the highway is progressing steadily. Of these, four bridges are already open to traffic, 11 more are scheduled for completion by December 2025, and the remaining 15 are expected to be finished by June 2026.
The renewed momentum follows a high-level meeting held on 29 August in Gandhinagar, which brought together officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Gujarat Gas, GETCO, the Revenue Department, and other key infrastructure stakeholders.
In related developments, the project’s contractor, Varah Agency, has incurred financial penalties of Rs 3 million for inadequate traffic management during ongoing works. The firm has also been tasked with conducting pothole repairs along the existing stretch of the corridor—a process currently in progress.
The highway project is expected to significantly ease congestion, bolster intercity logistics, and boost connectivity across the Saurashtra region upon completion.
