Rs 16.84 bn Paid For Ring Road Land In J&K, Government Informs House

The government told the House that it has paid Rs 16.84 billion (bn) for land for the ring road in Jammu and Kashmir, covering compensation and acquisition costs. The payment was part of infrastructure plans to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activity in the region. Authorities said the disbursement followed statutory procedures and survey verifications prior to acquisition.

The administration outlined seven key pillars to counter terror threats originating within and beyond the country, describing an approach that spans intelligence sharing, capacity building and community engagement. The measures were presented as part of a coordinated security strategy to complement policing and border management. Officials said the framework aims to strengthen prevention and response mechanisms.

In legislative business, 14 resolutions were selected through balloting, with 11 allotted to alliance legislators, two to the Bharatiya Janata Party and one to the Peoples Democratic Party. The allocation reflected party strength and procedural norms governing private members business. Members debated scheduling and implications for forthcoming sittings but did not discuss the substance of the measures.

The Lieutenant Governor reported a transformation in the sporting sector across Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of the Prime Minister, citing upgraded facilities and increased youth participation. The administration said targeted investments and talent programmes have broadened access to training and competition. Political exchanges on leadership and opposition dynamics formed part of routine legislative scrutiny.

The government signalled consideration of a rise in vehicle entitlements for officials from Rs 1.5 million (mn) to Rs 3.5 million, indicating a reassessment of protocol allowances. Officials said the proposal was part of a review of administrative norms and asset provisioning for official duties and that further consultations would follow. The House adjourned after completing the day's agenda.
