Embraer And Mahindra Deepen Partnership For C-390 MRO In India

Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer and Indian conglomerate Mahindra Group have agreed to deepen cooperation to develop Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul capabilities for the C-390 Millennium aircraft in India, contingent on the Indian Air Force selecting the type for its Medium Transport Aircraft programme. The initiative is intended to align with the government’s Make in India drive and to strengthen indigenous defence manufacturing capacities.

The partners envisage the proposed facility supporting both military and civil operators and creating significant employment across manufacturing, engineering and logistics. The planned capability is expected to integrate Indian suppliers into the global value chain for aircraft systems and components, enhancing competitiveness and long term export potential.

The C-390 Millennium can meet diverse operational requirements including transport, medical evacuation and air to air refuelling while carrying substantial payloads, which makes a local MRO attractive for mission readiness. Developing domestic repair and overhaul capabilities is likely to reduce turnaround times for the fleet and to improve lifecycle sustainment.

Embraer already operates several aircraft types in India across defence and business aviation sectors and the partnership with Mahindra is intended to build on that presence by establishing local engineering and maintenance expertise. The collaboration is presented as supporting national defence preparedness while offering commercial benefits to the domestic aerospace industry through technology transfer and skill development. The account is based on secondary research compiled by the reporting agency and the source has disclaimed responsibility for any errors in the collated information.
