Rs 37.1B Patna-Sasaram Highway Approved

The Union Cabinet has approved a 120-km four-lane highway between Patna and Sasaram, along with the Kosi Mechi river-linking project under PMKSY-AIBP. The highway, to be built on the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at Rs 37.1 billion, will ease congestion and strengthen Bihar’s infrastructure.

The project will be executed in two phases—74.43 km of new construction in two years and 45.67 km of greenfield and brownfield redevelopment in 30 months. It will connect five national highways (NH-19, 319, 922, 131G, 120) and four state highways (SH-12, 102, 02, 81), enhancing multimodal connectivity.

The highway will provide direct links to Patna and Bihita airports, major railway stations (Sasaram, Arrah, Danapur, Patna), and Patna Ring Road, facilitating freight and passenger movement.

Expected to generate 4.8 million man-days of employment, the corridor will play a key role in regional growth, improving links between Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, and Varanasi. The project comes ahead of Bihar’s assembly elections, as the NDA government eyes infrastructure-led development.
