Tiruninravur-Tiruvallur high road will shortly be widened

The Chennai-Tirupati Highway's Tiruninravur-Tiruvallur section will soon begin to be widened. The 17.5 km-long stretch's Rs 304 crore contract has been awarded, and the four-lane road with paved shoulders will aid to increase traffic safety.

The road will have paved shoulders on both sides and a 5-meter wide median. To increase motorist comfort, the contract conditions also stipulate lighting and stormwater drains. Although property has been purchased for six lanes, the stretch would only be enlarged to four lanes because of the traffic. Every day, about 15,000 automobiles use the road.

Residents of the western suburbs have long been calling for the widening project. It is a crucial connection to Tirupati, a significant religious hub. The amount of traffic will undoubtedly rise if the road is widened. The section between Tiruvallur and Tirupati also requires a four-lane width.
