The UPPWD has played a major role in the development of National Highways in the state. In 2021-22, the UPPWD completed 51 projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), which is a central government scheme for the construction of rural roads. The UPPWD also completed 16 projects under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, which is a central government scheme for the development of national highways. The UPPWD has also undertaken a number of other projects to improve the condition of national highways in the state. These projects include widening and strengthening of existing roads, construction of new bypasses, and construction of bridges.
