The (USBRL) project, which aims to build a train line from Kashmir to the rest of the nation, will be finished in February 2024. It only had two tunnels with a combined length of 200 m to complete. The latest confirmation regarding the scheduled completion of a prestigious project, which previously experienced many hiccups and skipped many deadlines due to weather and geological challenges, has come from the General Manager (GM) Northern Railways Shobhan Chaudhuri as a repetition of the announcement made by the Union Railway Minister.

Except for two tunnelling projects totalling 200 metres each, most of the the project's work is finished. In his first press conference after taking over as GM of Northern Railway in April 2023, Chaudhuri detailed the status of the USBRL project and noted that it is scheduled to be finished in February 2024, as stated by the Minister of Railways during his visit to Chenab Bridge. The press conference was held on Monday at the Northern Railway headquarters office in Baroda House, New Delhi.
