Balasore, located in the eastern part of Odisha, is a major railhead for both passenger and freight trains passing through the East Coast Railway zone. Under the scheme, ?139.05 crore has been earmarked for various modernization and maintenance projects in the Balasore district.

The funds will be utilized to enhance passenger facilities, develop better platforms, construct new foot overbridges, and improve track infrastructure in the stations of Basta, Soro, Bhadrak, Barunei, and Nilagiri. The allocation will facilitate track doubling, electrification, signaling, and station development along the Balangir-Kantabanji section, a crucial stretch of the Khurda-Balangir line. These enhancements will not only improve transportation facilities but also pave the way for increased industrial activity and employment opportunities in the district.
