Cabinet approves phase 2 of Ahmedabad Metro Rail project

The Union Cabinet has reportedly approved phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail, which is expected to comprise two corridors. The two corridors will be reportedly covering a distance of 28.254 km in total.

The 28.254 km will include 22.838 km-long corridor one from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir, and 5.416 km-long corridor two from GNLU to GIFT City. The phase 2 project of Ahmedabad Metro Rail is expected to be completed at a cost of Rs 53.8417 billion.

The phase 2 of Ahmedabad Metro Rail is expected to enhance the connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The projects will reportedly involve integration with other urban transport systems in an effective and efficient manner by adopting innovative methods of designing, technology as well as institutional management.

In the following month, Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate the phase 1 project of Ahmedabad Metro Rail. The Ahmedabad Metro Rail phase 1 project is around 40.03 km in total, of which 6.5 km is underground, while the remaining stretch is elevated. With the commencement of this project, four corners of the Ahmedabad will be connected with two corridors, covering 32 metro stations in total. The two corridors of phase 1 include 18.87 km long North-South corridor, covering 15 elevated stations and 21.16 km-long East-West corridor, covering four underground and 13 elevated stations.
