Bengaluru's Baiyappanahalli - KR Puram metro to launch in Sept

Siddaramaiah, CM, Karnataka, announced that the two-kilometre metro stretch from Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapuram on the purple line would only become operational in September. He stated that the metro line, initially scheduled for inauguration by the end of August, had faced a delay.

During the Independence Day event, Siddaramaiah remarked that Bengaluru's metro network ranked second nationwide. He indicated that the Baiyappanahalli – Krishnarajapuram and Kengeri – Challaghatta lines would start operating by September this year. Additionally, he mentioned that the Nagasandra – Madavara expansion would be completed by December this year.

The trial run of the Baiyappanahalli – Krishnarajapuram metro stretch in Bengaluru began towards the end of July. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) was actively monitoring these trial runs, which aimed to assess track alignment, speed, civil interface, and other technical challenges before the official inauguration. A load test was conducted on the Open Web Grinder (OWG) situated atop the Indian Railways track in Bennaganahalli. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) would subsequently inspect the line and grant approval for its inauguration.

This two-kilometre stretch on the purple line is set to connect the Whitefield area with Kengeri, Mysore Road, Majestic, and other central and south Bengaluru regions.

The prior BJP-led government had introduced the Whitefield – KR Puram line and faced criticism for failing to complete work on this significant section. The BMRCL then clarified that they needed approval from Indian Railways to install an open web grinder above the Bennganahalli railway station. Only one metro station, Jyotipuram, will be situated between KR Puram and Baiyappanahalli.
