CMRL to prepare feasibility study for introducing MRTS in Trichy

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is planning to conduct a feasibility study for the introduction of a suitable type of Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in consideration of the conditions of the Trichy city.

CMRL is a joint venture (JV) between the Government of Tamil Nadu and the centre.

On March 21, 2022, the CMRL invited bids from eligible consultants, before April 2022 for the preparation of the feasibility study report having traffic data.

Trichy, Tirunelveli, and Salem were the cities that had been selected by CMRL for the feasibility study.

With the proposed MRTS feasibility study, the development project area along with public transport routes shall be mapped for a better understanding of the public transport system. Further, the travel demand for almost 30 years will be calculated.

The CMRL in the order stated that based on the state’s direction, it has floated e-tenders on a single stage from eligible consultants, who should be a registered sole proprietorship company or consultancy having a registered office in India and incorporated under the Company Act 1956/2013. These are the eligibility criteria for the preparation of a feasibility study report to introduce MRTS in these three cities. Interested players shall submit the bid in two parts – technical and financial.
