Indian Railways Races Towards Net Zero Carbon Emissions

Indian Railways is on track to become a net zero carbon emitter, cutting emissions through electrification, renewable energy, and sustainable transport solutions. Key strategies include:

Electrification: 98% of the Broad Gauge network is now electrified, with a record 45,922 route kilometres completed between 2014-25, nearly doubling the progress of the past 60 years (21,801 km). Renewable Energy Push: Adoption of solar, wind, and hybrid power to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. 756 MW of renewable power has been commissioned so far: 553 MW Solar (Rooftop + Land) 103 MW Wind Energy 100 MW Hybrid (Solar + Wind) for Round-The-Clock (RTC) power
