Kolkata Metro Conducts Trial Run on Airport-Noapara Stretch

Kolkata Metro has conducted a successful trial run on the Airport–Noapara stretch of the Yellow Line, aimed at enhancing connectivity to the city’s airport and easing urban commute.

The 7-km stretch is expected to significantly reduce travel time and traffic congestion in the region. Metro Railway General Manager P. Uday Kumar Reddy oversaw the trial run and also visited the Jai Hind Biman Bandar station to brief officials.

“This stretch, once commissioned, would be a revolutionary step in providing a modern transport system to the people of Kolkata and suburbs to reach the airport,” a Metro spokesperson told ET Infra.

The first trial was carried out on January 25, and officials confirmed its success with no operational delays anticipated.

Meanwhile, Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) has completed a survey of a 1.6-km Purple Line extension from Esplanade to Eden Gardens. The alignment received clearance from Raj Bhavan, as a portion of the route will run adjacent to its lawns before reaching the proposed fifth underground station.
