Long-awaited Whitefield-Challaghatta corridor commences operation

The long-awaited Whitefield-Challaghatta Metro route (Purple Line) is now accessible to passengers.

In a letter dated October 8, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) informed the Urban Development Department of the Karnataka government that there would be no formal event to commemorate the opening.

The two portions would be solemnly dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister in two weeks' time in front of the Karnataka Chief Minister, it has been told. As both will offer continuous connectivity from the east to the west side of the city, these two sections are crucial from the standpoint of commuters in Bengaluru, according to a letter from MoHUA to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Karnataka government. On October 9, the 2.1 km Byappanahalli-KR Pura and 2.05 km Kengeri-Challaghatta sections of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) would be operational.

The frequency of services on the Whitefield (Kadugodi) - Pattandur Agrahara section will be 10 minutes, while it will be 5 minutes on the Pattandur Agrahara - Mysuru Road section, according to a release from BMRCL's chief public relations officer at 7:20 p.m. on October 8.

He stated that during the morning rush hour, services will run at a three-minute frequency on the Majestic-MG Road section of the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station, and at a ten-minute frequency between Mysuru Road and Challaghatta.
