Lucknow Metro Offers Free NCMC Exchange

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has opened a 30-day special exchange window for existing Lucknow Metro GoSmart Card holders to switch to the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) free of cost. The facility is available at all Lucknow Metro stations and allows passengers to surrender their GoSmart Cards and receive an NCMC without paying an issuance charge during the exchange period. The development was disclosed in an official statement and reported by news agencies. Passengers were advised to exhaust any balance on their existing cards before surrendering them.

Under the scheme, commuters must first use the balance on their GoSmart Cards and then hand over the cards at a metro station to obtain the NCMC at no charge within the 30-day window. Lucknow Metro will discontinue its existing card offerings, including GoSmart Cards, Tourist Cards and Super Saver Cards, as the NCMC becomes the primary mobility card for the network. The transition aims to simplify ticketing and reduce the need for multiple cards among regular travellers.

The NCMC, described as One Nation One Card, is an interoperable mobility card designed to permit payments across participating transport systems and other services through a single card. The card can be used on other metro networks, buses, parking facilities and retail outlets where interoperability is available, enabling passengers to move between systems without separate tokens or tickets. UPMRC management indicated that the move forms part of a broader effort to encourage interoperable cashless payments for urban travel.

Using the NCMC on Lucknow Metro will entitle passengers to a 10 per cent discount on every journey and to access participating systems through a single mobility credential. Outside the special exchange window new users must pay a non-refundable issuance charge of Rs 100 and may obtain cards through designated Airtel Payments Bank counters and kiosks at stations. The minimum top-up amount for the NCMC is Rs 100 while the maximum top-up limit is Rs 2,000.
