Metro Rail Project Construction Set to Begin in October

Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project works are expected to begin in October. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) has also been submitted to the Union government for a proposed double-decker metro.

The Bhogapuram Greenfield Airport is scheduled for completion by next April. A total of 22 roads have been proposed to connect the airport, out of which 15 are currently being completed. The construction of new roads is planned in coordination with the National Highways Authority of India.

Between 2014 and 2019, approximately 7 lakh TIDCO houses were proposed, but less than 2 lakh houses were completed by the previous government. The current administration has directed officials to complete the remaining houses as soon as possible. The estimated cost for this is around Rs 70 billion, and the houses are expected to be allotted to women beneficiaries by Dasara.

Plans are being prepared for the construction of a semi-ring road in Visakhapatnam, similar to the Hyderabad ring road.

Several issues were reviewed during a meeting at the VMRDA office, including matters related to Simhachalam temple lands, Anakapalli land pooling, the beach corridor, the six-lane project at the steel plant, and other VMRDA initiatives.

In view of the approaching summer, legislators requested the early completion of GVMC water pipeline works to ensure adequate drinking water supply. They also asked for an increase in the number of vehicles and pushcarts used for waste collection in hilly areas, citing inadequacy. Additionally, they sought support for infrastructure development projects across North Andhra.

The meeting was attended by the MSME Minister, the Assembly Speaker, VMRDA Chairman, Commissioner, MLC, and several MLAs.
