MMRDA gets 71.04 hectare for 4 metro sheds

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was slated to receive a total of 71.04 hectare of land for the establishment of car sheds for four metro routes. These routes included Metro 4, which connected Wadala to Kasarwadavli, Metro 4A, connecting Kasarwadavli to Gaimukh, Metro 10, running from Gaimukh to Shivaji Chowk in Mira Road, and Metro 12, extending from Kalyan to Taloja.

It was mentioned that the designated plot in Survey No 30 had originally been owned by the state and used for agricultural purposes. This land had been leased to 167 lessees and was located in proximity to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Ghodbunder Road. The land's purpose was to play a crucial role in the expansion of Mumbai's metro network.

In the month of June, residents from the Mogharpada locality voiced their opposition to the construction of the car shed. They called for fair compensation for the locals who would be affected by the project. The villagers even organised a protest in front of the Thane revenue office when revenue and MMRDA officials visited before the monsoon season.

Local representatives from the Shiv Sena, who supported the villagers' cause, wrote a letter to the then MMRDA commissioner, SVR Srinivas, requesting a halt to the land acquisition process. According to the proposed policy, it was indicated that land occupants were likely to receive 22.5% of the developed land as compensation. This model was similar to the policy employed by CIDCO.

Moving to August, the MMRDA successfully acquired land for a car shed dedicated to the upcoming Metro Line 12, which would connect Kalyan to Taloja. Specifically, the Thane collector transferred 47 hectares of land in Niljepada to the MMRDA for this specific purpose.
