PM Modi to Lay Foundation Stone for 508 Railway Station Redevelopment

In a momentous endeavor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to initiate the foundational phase of the revitalization project for 508 railway stations nationwide. This pivotal event is scheduled for August 6 and will be conducted via video conferencing, as announced by his office.

These 508 stations are spread across 27 states and union territories, with significant numbers in various regions: 55 in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan each, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 in both Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 in both Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana, and 13 in Karnataka.

The comprehensive redevelopment project, with a budget of Rs 244.70 billion, will not only enhance modern amenities for passengers but also incorporate well-planned traffic flow, seamless integration between different modes of transportation, and strategically placed signage to assist travelers, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The architectural design of the station buildings will draw inspiration from local culture, heritage, and traditions.

Recognizing Prime Minister Modi's emphasis on state-of-the-art public transportation and his acknowledgment of railways as a favored mode of travel for citizens, the PMO highlights his commitment to elevating the quality of facilities at railway stations. In line with this vision, the 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme' was launched, aiming to rejuvenate a total of 1,309 stations, the statement added. As part of this scheme, the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 stations is being laid by the prime minister. "These stations will be redeveloped at a cost of more than Rs 244.70 billion. Master Plans are being prepared for the development of these stations as 'City Centres', with proper integration of both sides of the city. This integrated approach is driven by the holistic vision of overall urban development of the city, centred around the railway station,” the PMO said.
