Tripura Achieves Full Railway Electrification Under Rs 460 Mn Project

The Tripura State Electricity Corporation has completed 100 per cent electrification of the state’s 271 km railway track under a Rs 460 million project launched in 2022. The development marks a major step towards connecting Tripura with the national railway grid through electric trains.

The Northeast Frontier Railway recently carried out a successful trial run of a goods train with an electric locomotive between Assam’s Badarpur station and Tripura’s Jirania station. This was followed by passenger train trials between Agartala and Assam’s Arunachal Junction railway station.

The move is expected to pave the way for regular electric locomotive-powered train operations in the state, reducing dependence on diesel engines, cutting operational costs, and contributing to the national agenda of sustainable, low-carbon transport.
