Upgrade Work for Anand Vihar and Sarai Rohilla Stations to Begin Soon

Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu announced on Sunday that Indian Railways would begin development work at Delhi's Anand Vihar and Sarai Rohilla railway stations.

The upgrades are expected to alleviate congestion, enhance the commuter experience, and bring Delhi's railway infrastructure in line with global standards. According to officials, plans are in place for a residential facility, a three-star budget hotel, and a mall within the terminal premises of Anand Vihar, all of which will be developed through a public-private partnership model.

Additionally, there are plans to widen the railway overbridge at Anand Vihar, as the existing structure is not suitable for handling the traffic load. A signal-free corridor linking East Delhi's Anand Vihar to West Delhi's Zakhira is also in the works.

Sarai Rohilla railway station is also set to undergo redevelopment, with a focus on improving passenger amenities, accessibility, and integrating public transport hubs.

During a press conference in the national capital, Bittu criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), urging them to fulfill their promises in Punjab before announcing new initiatives for Delhi, where assembly elections are scheduled for February 5. He particularly targeted AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal for failing to deliver on commitments in Punjab, such as the unimplemented promise of providing Rs 1,000 per month to women.

Bittu also raised concerns over Kejriwal's unfulfilled promises in combating drug abuse, pointing out that while Kejriwal talks about free schemes in Delhi, no substantial action has been taken in Punjab, where drug overdose deaths reached 144 in 2023, the highest in the country. The AAP did not respond to these allegations.
