Kolkata Port offers 60 acre for state's first multi-modal logistics park

The Kolkata Port, also known as Syama Prasad Mookherjee Port (SMP), is offering nearly 60 acres of its land in Kolkata for setting up West Bengal's first multi-modal logistics park (MMLP). An SMP official said this MMLP will be unique as it will be located just 2km from the port docks, making it more attractive than other proposed MMLPs across India.

SMP has invited bids for allotting the vacant land on a 30-year lease for the MMLP project. The base annual rent is set at Rs 21 crore with a minimum cargo volume guarantee of 1 million tonnes. The facilities planned for the MMLP include warehousing, cold storage, offices, transport and other logistics infrastructure. The port aims to boost logistics and attract more users through the MMLP.

Over 25 acres of warehousing space is already available at the site, which is strategically located near highways and offers connectivity to Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and North-East India. The last date for bidding is September 29. SMP hopes the MMLP will help reduce foreign trade costs and benefit the Kolkata port.
