Cochin Smart City Mission: Smart roads to be completed by September

The Cochin Smart Mission (CSML) is planning to complete major road works in Ernakulam by September.

The City Level Advisory Forum (CLAF) meeting discussed the project progress and the problems encountered during the implementation of the project.

While presenting the details at the fourth CLAF, Jafar Malik, the CSML CEO, told the CLAF members that due to the contractor's poor performance, growth in the road works of West Kochi was impacted.

It was also mentioned in the meeting that there had been a delay in executing the smart city projects because of the Covid pandemic and various other reasons.

The members of CLAF said CSML has to make up for the ruined time and facilitate the implementation of the ongoing projects.

CLAF advised conducting individual meetings with ward councillors and extended their support for making sure the projects are finished successfully.

During the meeting, CLAF members noted that taking up the sewerage project in Mattancherry might not be practical due to the pandemic and offered a joint meeting to decide the plan for moving ahead.

It was suggested to transfer the fund allotted to CSML for the Canal rejuvenation to the Operation Breakthrough. It would enable the company to take up the rejuvenation projects of the Rameswaram Kalvathy canal and Mullassery canal.

The members recommended CSML explore the chance of restoring non-starter projects with new ones that enhance the city's infrastructure and give Smart solutions to the problems of its citizens.

The foundation works of Syed Calvathy School and Mohammed Bridge are in process. The market rehabilitation project is likely to be finished by July, and the tender for the new market structure would also be awarded this month. By mid-July, the Marine Drive Walkway will be finished.
