Tirupati and NEC collaborate for Smart City Transformation

Tirupati Smart City Corporation has entered into a partnership with NEC Corporation India to establish a City Operations Centre (COC) and deploy various Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions within Tirupati. The primary goal of this initiative, as stated in an official announcement, is to enhance city management and provide improved services for both residents and visitors.

NEC's planned ICT solutions encompass the creation of a Unified Command and Control Centre, enabling real-time data collection and analysis along with two-way communication capabilities. These enhancements are intended to streamline the city's responses across multiple sectors, including safety, security, healthcare, and environmental management. Furthermore, additional infrastructure components such as a City Network Infrastructure and an On-Premises Data Centre will be established to facilitate data-driven decision-making for city operations.

D Haritha, Managing Director of Tirupati Smart City Corporation, emphasised the critical importance of effective city management in a city known for its significant religious tourism. Tirupati attracts a substantial number of daily visitors, sometimes exceeding 80,000. Ensuring their comfort, efficiency, and safety is a paramount mission.

The Smart City project also places a significant emphasis on traffic management. An Intelligent Traffic Management System is slated for deployment to regulate traffic flow, alleviate congestion during peak hours, and work towards reducing road accidents.

NEC India has committed to supporting the local government in Tirupati by enabling the delivery of Municipal Services through technology. This support includes systems such as Facial Recognition Systems, Intelligent Video Management Systems, and integration with existing and new CCTV cameras throughout the city.

Furthermore, the project encompasses additional components like Smart Water Solutions, Environmental Sensors, and Public Address Systems, all designed to contribute to the city's governance. To enhance public engagement and the dissemination of crucial local information, Digital Billboards and Variable Message Sign Boards will be strategically placed.

In addition to these efforts, a City Collaboration Platform is in the works, intended to provide essential local information through a web portal and mobile devices. Aalok Kumar, President and CEO of NEC Corporation India, underscored how this project aligns with NEC Corporation's broader global strategies for Smart City development.
