Union Cabinet Extends Jal Jeevan Mission And Approves Jewar Road

The Union Cabinet approved an extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission, known as JJM, and sanctioned an elevated road to link Jewar airport with Faridabad. The extension will allow continued focus on household tap connections and rural water supply infrastructure, and will strengthen water quality monitoring. The elevated road is intended to improve connectivity to the airport and reduce travel time from the surrounding region.

The Jal Jeevan Mission was described as a national programme to provide safe and adequate drinking water through piped connections to all rural households. Implementation responsibilities will remain with central and state authorities, and the extension is expected to support ongoing installation and maintenance efforts, including capacity building at local level. Officials indicated that the extension aligns with broader goals of improving rural health and sanitation.

The elevated road project is planned as an access corridor to the airport at Jewar and will link to existing highways near Faridabad. The road is intended to serve passengers, freight and logistics and to stimulate regional economic activity. Planning documents will address land acquisition, environmental clearance and phased construction.

Budgetary details and timelines were not specified in the announcement, and further approvals will be sought as project plans mature. Coordination between ministries and state governments will be required to resolve operational and financial arrangements. Stakeholders will monitor progress to ensure that benefits reach intended communities.

The Cabinet decision underscores a continued emphasis on infrastructure that combines basic services with connectivity enhancements. The extension of the water mission and the new road are presented as complementary measures to support regional development. Updates on project milestones and implementation schedules are expected in due course.

How Hormuz is Hijacking Indian Highways

At the recently held RAHSTA Round Table on 29th April in Pune, and earlier during our webinars for Cement Expo by Indian Cement Review and by FIRST Construction Council on manufacturing construction equipment for the world, one thread lay common: the industry is being subjected to a cost-push chain reaction moving from crude oil → freight/insurance → steel, cement fuel, bitumen, polymers, packaging, logistics and finally project margins. Indeed, the West Asia crisis caused by the war and the Hormuz Strait blockade, which does not directly concern us, has turned around and hit us. If the wa..
