BPCL Signs Rs 44.5 mn Deal for Shirdi Temple Rooftop Solar

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed a deal worth Rs 44.5 mn for a rooftop solar project at the Shirdi temple complex. The agreement covers the installation of solar panels on temple buildings and affiliated structures to harness on-site renewable energy. The initiative forms part of a wider corporate approach to deploy decentralised generation where feasible.

The project is intended to support the electrical needs of the temple complex and its associated facilities while reducing reliance on the local grid. It aims to lower operational energy costs and to contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions from conventional power sources. The contract was executed with the temple management under mutually agreed terms. Local administrators will coordinate with technical teams during deployment to ensure minimal disruption to daily rituals.

BPCL described the arrangement in a press release that outlined the financial value of the contract and its strategic rationale without providing detailed capacity figures. The move reflects a growing interest by energy companies in rooftop solutions at institutional and community sites as a pragmatic route to increase renewable energy deployment. The company indicated that the project will be implemented in compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practice. Such projects typically help reduce transmission losses by generating power close to demand centres and can support peak demand management.

The installation is designed to improve energy resilience for the large number of visitors and the daily operations of the complex and to deliver long-term cost benefits. The project is also presented as a demonstration of the role that state and corporate entities can play in supporting sustainable infrastructure at cultural landmarks. Further operational specifics and timelines were not disclosed in the release.
