ENGIE Secures Financial Closure For 250 MW Khaba Solar Project

ENGIE has reached financial closure for the 250 megawatt (MW) Khaba Solar Project in Barmer, Rajasthan, marking a significant step in its expansion in India. The project, developed by Khaba Renewable Energy Private Limited, a wholly owned ENGIE subsidiary, is expected to generate about 650 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually. The output is estimated to offset roughly 180,000 tonnes (t) of carbon dioxide each year and construction is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2026.

Leading global financial institutions have provided the funding, enabling the project to proceed to procurement and construction. The financial close allows ENGIE to mobilise resources for delivery and to advance contracts and logistics. The company anticipates that the construction phase will create employment opportunities locally, with about 80 per cent of roles expected to be filled by nearby communities.

Amit Jain, chief executive officer and country manager for India and managing director for renewables and batteries in South East Asia, described the closure as reflecting ENGIE’s confidence in India’s long term renewable growth prospects. He said the group will concentrate on delivering projects that combine execution quality with operational reliability. The remarks framed the Khaba scheme as intended to deliver long term value for customers and local stakeholders.

The installation adds further scale to ENGIE’s portfolio across solar, wind, battery energy storage and integrated clean energy solutions in India. ENGIE has been active in the market since 2014 and continues to invest in renewable assets in line with national decarbonisation goals. The project is expected to support India’s clean energy targets and to demonstrate the role of international finance in accelerating large scale renewables.
