POWERGRID Invites Bids For 500 MW 1000 MWh BESS Across India

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has invited bids for the development of a 500 MW / 1000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project to be implemented across India. The project will be executed under a Long-Term Agreement and is classified as Category-A for a two-hour battery energy storage system. The move forms part of efforts to strengthen the national grid and support a growing share of renewable energy.

The successful developer will be responsible for the complete design, engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of BESS installations at multiple sites on a site?destination basis. The tender notice states that the installations are intended to enhance grid reliability and improve the integration of solar and wind power by storing surplus generation for use during peak demand or periods of low renewable output. The procurement is intended to deploy large scale storage infrastructure to support a cleaner energy transition.

The tender is identified by Specification Reference Number CC/T/W-BESS/DOM/A04/26/09605 and is being issued as an open competitive bidding process under the Works category in the Power and Energy sector. POWERGRID is conducting procurement through its digital e?tendering PRANIT Portal under RFX Number 5007000201 and began the sale of tender documents on July 16, 2026, at 11:30 PM. A pre?bid meeting has been scheduled for July 28, 2026, at 11:30 AM to allow prospective bidders to seek clarifications on scope and requirements.

Online submission of technical and financial proposals opened on July 16, 2026, and developers have until August 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM to submit bids, with opening scheduled for the same day at 11:30 AM. The tender fee and earnest money deposit have both been set at zero and the notice does not specify a performance bank guarantee, with detailed contractual obligations to be provided in tender documents on the portal. The process is overseen by Rohit Dalakoti, Chief Manager at POWERGRID, with administrative correspondence handled from the company headquarters at Saudamini, Sector 29, Gurugram, Haryana, and is expected to bolster power infrastructure and long-term energy storage objectives.
