“We are convinced that bC India will establish itself as the leading trade fair and industry gathering in India,” say Eugen Egetenmeir, Managing Director, Messe München GmbH and Thomas Loeffler, CEO, bC Expo India Pvt Ltd, in an interview with CW. Excerpts...

Please tell us something about bC India and its theme.
bC India is a new trade show that focuses on the machinery industry for construction, building materials, mining, construction vehicles and construction equipment for the Indian subcontinent and neighbouring countries. The event will offer a comprehensive product portfolio and present the perfect opportunity for Indian buyers and international industry leaders. It is a joint venture between Muenchen International, organiser of bauma, and AEM organiser of ConexpoCON/AGG. In addition, bC India is supported by the Builders' Association of India. An advisory board of experts from ACE, Ashok Leyland, John Deere, Doosan, Haver & Boecker, JCB, Kobelco, Liebherr, Liugong, Manitowoc, Putzmeister, Schwing Stetter, Terex, Voltas, Volvo and Zoomlion are supporting the organisers of the fair.

How important is the Indian market for the global construction industry?
With the world's biggest purchasing power and the ability to attract investors from all over the globe, investments in the infrastructure sector in India are projected to reach an impressive €140 billion in 2010. It is an important market for any global player and bC India will be the perfect platform to attain better understanding of the booming construction industry in India. Mumbai is an ideal spot for solidifying customer and prospective relationships with the city's central location providing an easy access for domestic and international visitors.

What response are you expecting for bauma China this year?
bC is touted as one of the most popular shows in East Asia and we are expecting an overwhelming response. Despite the recessionary wave that hit the globe, China did not really face the consequences of this meltdown. The Chinese Government provided a stimulus package of €450 billion to the construction industry, which enormously benefited us. Currently, the economy is performing well and is expecting about 10 per cent growth this fiscal.

With the world going green, how is your company promoting environmental protection and sustainability?
The industry is moving towards inclusive electronic devices, which are not only efficient but also facilitate environment-friendly development. A lot of focus is on reducing the noise and emission levels and incorporating safety features. To promote ecofriendly concepts and innovations, we initiated an Innovation Award in April 2010 at bauma Germany and Munich for companies bringing in convincing solutions and practices that will help the industry and environment at large.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has secured Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance for the reconstruction of the Poisar River bridge in Gorai, located in Mumbai’s western suburbs. However, the proposed demolition of the existing 100-metre bridge has sparked opposition from local residents, who claim it serves as the only direct access route between the Lower and Upper Koliwada areas. The three-decade-old bridge, situated within the CRZ buffer zone, was recently declared structurally unsafe following a civic audit. The BMC has sanctioned its reconstruction at an estimated cost ..

The construction of a new cable-stayed rail overbridge at Ghatkopar and the widening of the Andheri–Ghatkopar Link Road (AGLR) have been delayed due to the presence of nearly 250 encroached structures on both sides of the road.
