Two multi-level parking projects in Faridabad lay stalled since 2018

The two multi-level parking plans formed in 2018 for the Mini-Secretariat, housing the district headquarters, have not commenced yet.

Three years have passed, but the projects have failed to take off causing residents to suffer due to parking chaos in the area.

The district department officials told the media that these plans are in the pipeline for Sector 12, the main official and institutional centre of the city. But no work has begun as the project is awaiting permission from the concerned officials.

These projects, being the first-of-its-kind, will need land procurement and funds to the tune of several crores before these get approved, they added. However, the delay has raised the difficulties not only for visitors but also for hundreds of employees and officials, operating in the Mini-Secretariat, since they have to jostle for a safe place to park their vehicles on the road.

While the parking on the roads adjoining the secretariat building is not free as these have been obtained illegally by the parking mafia, the lanes of residential areas have been converted into parking areas resulting in a mess.

Claiming that the delay in the permission of the projects can be deliberate or part of a conspiracy to profit vested interests, Partyush Sharma, a lawyer, told the media that the yearly collection of parking fees by private persons could be more than Rs 1 crore from the premises here.

Varun Sheokand, a resident, told the media that since the existing parking contract fails to set the limits, the fee is collected on all roads in the half-km proximity of the main building. The fee collected is much more than the contract price. The issue can worsen after the head office of the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad, which is under construction, becomes operative.

Rajeev Sharma, Superintending Engineer, HSVP, claiming that these two multi-level parking accommodating 2,300 vehicles stands allowed, told the media that final approval from the headquarters was expected soon.
