Fadnavis Orders Equal Land Split in Dharavi Project

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that land under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) be divided equally between rehabilitation units and for-sale buildings.
At a review meeting held on 28 May, he ordered that rental tenement sizes for ineligible residents in the Dharavi notified area be increased to 350 sq ft, while planned building units for existing residents will rise from 405 sq ft to 500 sq ft. He also instructed that Dharavi’s twin digital survey model be extended to all slums in Mumbai. According to RTI-obtained meeting minutes, these revisions will be incorporated into the DRP Master Plan, aligned with the 2016 Development Plan.
The state has earmarked salt pan, dumping ground, and revenue lands outside Dharavi for rental housing. Residents who settled between 2011 and 15 November 2022 will be offered 300 sq ft rental homes, with an option to purchase after 10 years or through upfront payment.
