VP residence and office work under Rajpath revamp to start from Dec

According to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the construction of a new residential and office complex under the Rajpath redevelopment, for the Vice-President will begin in December and take 11 months to complete.

As a redevelopment project of Central Vista which covers Rashtrapati Bhawan till India Gate, the Vice-Presidents' Enclave would be constructed over a 15 acres plot near North Block, Rashtrapati Bhawan.

According to a senior official, the process of vacating the hutments was on, and the construction of VP's Enclave will begin in December. Its current residence on the Maulana Azad Road will be demolished to make way for the new buildings of the Common Central Secretariat (CCS).

CPWD wrote to Kamaladityya Construction Private Limited, accepting the bid of Rs 206.49 crore, 3.52% lower than the estimated cost of Rs 214.03 crore. The financial bid was opened on 2 November, including 189.15 crore construction cost and Rs 173.42 crore for five years of operation and maintenance (O&M). It has 11 months to complete the project, which will begin 22 days after receiving the letter.

The complex will include VPs' residence, a guest house, a secretariat, a sport facility, staff quarters, barracks and ancillary buildings.

According to an official, construction of the new Parliament building and Central Vista is in full swing. However, the work on the first three buildings of the CCS is yet to begin. CPWD awarded the construction project to Larsen and Toubro (L&T). The construction of the three buildings on the plot where the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts was located will begin in December.
