BorgWarner Bags Two New Conquest Orders in Asia for ICE and Hybrid Programs

BorgWarner has secured two new conquest program awards in Asia, strengthening its presence in propulsion and drivetrain technologies across combustion and hybrid powertrain platforms. The awards include a latest-generation wet dual clutch for a Chinese OEM’s SUV platform and a torsional assist (TA) variable cam timing (VCT) system for a Japanese OEM’s upcoming hybrid engine.

“These new conquest awards reflect BorgWarner’s continued commitment to advancing efficient and competitive propulsion solutions across both transmission and VCT technologies,” said Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, Drivetrain and Morse Systems. “They further demonstrate the resilience and growth potential of our propulsion business in Asia, as customers continue to value high-performance, cost-competitive solutions for both combustion and hybrid powertrains.”

For the Chinese SUV application, BorgWarner’s wet dual clutch features advanced wet friction materials and an optimised groove design aimed at reducing drag torque. This helps enhance transmission efficiency and improve vehicle fuel economy. The system also offers stable friction performance at lower actuation pressure, delivering smoother vehicle launch and gear shifts. Additionally, a newly integrated wave spring improves robustness while supporting cost competitiveness. The program is scheduled to begin production in the second half of 2026.

The second award covers BorgWarner’s centre-bolt TA VCT system for a Japanese OEM’s next-generation hybrid engine. Compared to oil pressure actuated VCT architectures, the system simplifies internal oil passages, improving cam phasing response and strengthening lock-pin engagement. These advantages make it suitable for hybrid engines that require faster response and higher efficiency. Production for this program is expected to begin in 2028.

BorgWarner said it will support the customer through the full development cycle, from technical concept design to production implementation, as the OEM upgrades its VCT architecture.
