Capital-A Leads Pre-Seed Funding in Quintrans

Capital-A, India’s manufacturing- and deep tech-focused venture capital fund, has led a $750,000 pre-seed funding round in Quintrans, a Pune-based engineering startup developing India-built direct-drive linear motion systems for industrial automation, robotics and equipment manufacturing. The round also saw participation from Sumeet Kabra of RR Global, SanchiConnect, AIC-Pinnacle and other strategic partners, along with continued ecosystem support from IIMA Ventures.
Founded by engineers from MIT Pune, Quintrans is working on advanced electromagnetic and electromechanical linear motion components that enable frictionless movement, high-speed performance and micron-level precision. The company’s India-led design and manufacturing model offers cost efficiency, customised deployment and assured service, positioning it as a domestic alternative in a market largely dominated by global OEMs.
The fresh capital will be deployed to establish an in-house manufacturing and advanced testing facility in Pune, accelerate research and development in electromagnetic actuation, and strengthen core engineering and operations teams ahead of commercial rollout. India’s actuator market, which stood at around 6.8 million units in FY 2022, is projected to cross 10 million units by FY 2026, driven by rising automation and mobility demand. Quintrans aims to produce nearly 500,000 actuators annually by 2030, supporting India’s push for indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

Study Highlights Freshwater Sponges’ Role in Fighting Metal Pollution

Scientists have identified freshwater sponges and their associated microbial communities as powerful natural allies in tackling toxic metal pollution, offering new hope for sustainable water quality management. A recent study has revealed that these sponges can act both as bioindicators and effective absorbents of harmful metals such as arsenic, lead and cadmium. The findings come from a study published in Microbiology Spectrum by researchers from Bose Institute, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The research focused on freshwater spong..
