Jharkhand Seeks ?1.36 Lakh Crore Dues

The Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, has raised concerns over unpaid dues of ?1.36 lakh crore owed by coal companies to the state. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Soren highlighted that this massive outstanding amount is significantly affecting Jharkhand's development. The bulk of these dues arises from coal mining activities, with the state demanding compensation for land acquisition, royalty payments, and other levies.

Soren emphasized that the non-clearance of these dues is hampering critical infrastructure development and welfare programs. The state government has urged the central government to expedite the settlement of these outstanding amounts to boost economic activities in Jharkhand, which is heavily dependent on its mineral resources, especially coal.

This issue is crucial as coal-rich states like Jharkhand play a key role in India's energy sector, and delayed payments impact the state’s ability to invest in necessary public services
